⍰ ASK Who is your favorite Poker Player?

I totally get why you’re into Phil Hellmuth — the guy’s got insane discipline and that record of bracelets is no joke. I think the media loves to hype the drama, but honestly, he knows how to keep cool when it counts. As for me, I’m a big fan of Daniel Negreanu. I like how he reads people and adapts his game, almost like he’s playing chess instead of cards. Plus, he’s super approachable and always shares his knowledge, which makes the game feel more accessible. Both those guys are legends, just in their own style. What’s your favorite Hellmuth moment?

This question has already been asked a million times but here’s the short answer:

  • Legends, still considered great, but maybe not the best: Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Viktor Blom.
  • Tournament career money leaders: Bryn Kenney, Justin Bonomo, Fedor Holz, Dan Smith, David Peters, Stephen Chidwick, Jason Koon. Add Eric Seidel here as well.
  • Hybrid player who stays pretty current: Daniel Negreanu. Hybrid in that he was at the top of the cash game world for a long time, also was TV famous, but has also performed in different eras on the tournament circuit.
  • Legends, not considered currently great by peers but adored by the public: Phil Hellmuth, Johnny Chan.
  • Sick big game cash players: Doyle Brunson (still), David Oppenheim.
  • Coaches and commentators section: Nick Schulman, Matt Berkey. There are others here as well but these two stand out.
  • Former terrors: Michael MacDonald, Vanessa Selbst (neither is a full time player any more). Holz would fit here as well.
  • WSOP Players Championship multiple wins: Michael Mizrachi, Brian Rast.
Of these lists I would say currently Stephen Chidwick and Bryn Kenney are at the top. But it changes all the time. Poker is very dynamic right now.
