⍰ ASK Are there any specific requirements for companies in the energy and natural resources sector during formation in the USA?

At the federal level, the EPA and DOE regulate the energy sector, overseeing emissions, environmental impact, and energy production. For oil and gas companies, BOEM and BLM manage leasing and permits on federal lands and waters.

Mining companies follow regulations from MSHA and laws like the Federal Mine Safety and Health Act.

State regulations also impact energy and natural resources companies, covering permits, environmental impact, and statespecific conservation and extraction rules.

To be honest, it wasn't until recently that I realized how many different agencies were involved in mining and energy regulation. It's a little crazy—EPA and DOE deal with the major federal issues, but BOEM and BLM are in charge of leasing on federal lands. MSHA and safety regulations are unique to mining. However, it makes sense because these industries can significantly affect communities and the environment. I suppose it all comes down to maintaining order and preventing businesses from going haywire. I understand why these regulations are in place now, but it's a lot to remember.
