⍰ ASK Best shampoo for dry/damaged hair?

Ugh, dry hair. Absolute nightmare, right? Honestly, I used to dread stepping out of the shower only to find my hair still looking like a bale of hay—split ends everywhere, random frizz, you name it. I went through this ridiculous phase where I’d hoard bottles, switching up shampoos every couple weeks. Total fail. Turns out, most of them make things worse. Who knew?

Here’s the thing: shampoo can either save you, or just ruin your hair for good. I’ve learned (the hard way) that you need something gentle. Like, really gentle. If your shampoo’s got sulfates, toss it. Might as well use dish soap—the result’s about the same. You need a formula that actually hydrates and repairs, not just strips your hair and leaves it squeaky (aka brittle AF).

Now, I swear by Olaplex No.4. Not even exaggerating—it changed the game for me. My hair used to snap off constantly, but with this stuff? It’s like my hair’s forgiven me for years of straightener abuse and terrible dye jobs. It actually repairs damage at the “sciencey” level (you know, bonds and molecules and whatnot). It leaves my hair all soft but doesn’t turn it to mush or leave this weird residue.

If you want something a bit more "natural," you can't go wrong with SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter—the Moisture Retention one. Smells like, I dunno, a cozy hug and a tropical holiday at the same time. My hair feels smoother, gets this nice shine, and the frizz chills out. Bonus: actual ingredients you can recognize. Wild concept.

Let’s be real, though—good shampoo is just the beginning. If you’re not following up with some intense conditioner or a hair mask, you’re only fixing half the problem. I like anything with keratin or silk amino acids—my hair basically soaks it up like a thirsty plant. Oh, and everyone’s hair is so weirdly picky, so what works for me might not work for you (life’s cruel like that).

Anyway, I’m always nosy about other people’s routines. Did you ever find a product you’d literally defend with your life? Or some weird hair hack your grandma swears by? Gimme the scoop.

I completely agree that dry hair is the worst. In the hopes that it would "clean better," I would simply apply more shampoo, but all I got was straw. Everything changed after I stopped using sulfates. Olaplex No.4, or "literal hair rehab," is another product that I adore. But what's my secret weapon? Argan oil-based leave-in conditioner. I take it religiously, especially right before bed. For my hair, it functions similarly to a night cream. Additionally, I vouch for using a microfiber towel to air dry—less frizz, much less breakage. My grandmother's trick? Coconut oil overnight, but it took me years to figure out that if I used too much, I would be greasy for days. Even so, it works when my hair is begging for assistance.
