Btbcoins – also known as BitCoe – is a fake crypto exchange platform that has been set up to scam investors out of their cash.
It is being used as part of a wider ‘pig butchering’ scam, whereby unsuspecting investors are being contacted at random over social media and befriended.
After a few weeks the new ‘friend’ starts talking about crypto investing and claims that they’re making huge returns on Btbcoins.
Often they’ll add a victim to a WhatsApp group purporting to show dozens of other investors talking about much money they’re making.
Once the victim is convinced, they’ll be shown how to transfer cash from their bank account and convert it into crypto before sending it to a wallet controlled by the scammers.
Fake screens will show ‘profits’, and the victim will be encouraged and often pressured into investing increasingly large amounts.
If they try to take their ‘profits’ they’ll find their account blocked. The scammers then claim that taxes or other fees are owed in an attempt to steal even more cash.
Tell-tale signs that Btbcoins is a scam
There are several reasons that Btbcoins is clearly a scam – from the poor design and layout, the grammatically incorrect text, the mismatched site name, the new domain name registration and the lack of any kind of genuine functionality or explanation about how the profits are achieved.
There are numerous other red flags as well which means we’re convinced that this site as been designed to scam users and should be avoided at all costs.
