Etoroexca is a scam crypto trading platform that’s taken the name and logo of the legitimate trading platform eToro in an attempt to trick people into investing.
The platform is designed to resemble a genuine crypto and stock trading platform but it actually offers no functionality and is used as part of a pig butchering scam.
Victims are approached via social media by people who then befriend them, often over a period of weeks or months, before casually mentioning investing.
They’ll steer them towards the Etoroexca scam platform and encourage them to convert cash to crypto before transferring it to ‘invest’.
‘Profits’ will appear in the victim’s account soon afterwards, but if they try to withdraw their investment they’ll be blocked from doing so.
The scammers will then attempt to make various random charges, claiming they’re need to pay ‘fees’, ‘commissions’ or ‘taxes’, but this is all part of the scam and designed to extract more money from the victim.
How to tell Etoroexca is a scam
There are many things wrong with this platform making it easy to identify it as a scam.
They include:
- Ripping off a well-known brand’s name and logo should make investors run mile.
- A virtually brand-new domain name registration.
- Claims that it’s ‘the world’s leading cryptocurrency trading platform’ when it’s only about two months old is ridiculous.
- A Domain Authority (DA) ranking of 1, the lowest possible meaning it gets very little traffic and has no inbound links.
- The only mention of the Etoroexca online is on scam warning sites.
- No social media presence or mobile apps available in the major stores.
- No details about the company, licensing or regulation.
- Contact information is limited to a single email address.
What to do if you’ve lost money to Etoroexca
You should always report crypto scams to the authorities, giving them as much information as possible about what’s happened and the transactions involved.
There are also private companies that might be able to help which I’ve written about here.
